Feeling a bit "blah" after the
Holidays? New Year's Resolutions nagging you unappealingly? Feeling down or
finding it hard to shake off that cold? Modern society has done a good
job of teaching us that saving effort is better, but this is not the case when
it comes to physical activity. We need to stop going through life with the
minimum of physical effort and move a bit more. It is recommended that adults
take two and a half hours moderate to intense physical activity a week to
maintain healthy heart and lungs. Improved flexibility, balance and mood are a
bonus.
Here, at the Lloyd Memorial Centre in Kingsport , the Kingsport Fitness
and Wellness Society offers a varied program of seven classes every week. We
believe keeping fit should be affordable and fun and we have the classes to
prove it. Our qualified instructors work hard to ensure our offerings are
accessible to different ability levels and appeal to different interest groups.
Some of our participants are young mums who bring their babies, others are in
their seventies. Some walk to class from just across the street while others
drive or car share from Blomidon, Pereau, Sheffield Mills, Habitant, Canard and
Canning. Some people come very regularly, others fit our classes around their
other engagements. If you like to be in control of your own pace, under the
supervision of an instructor, try our circuit training class on Tuesday and
Thursday evenings. Prefer a more directed class with lots of music? Try Monday
and Wednesday mornings. We do a bit of each on Friday mornings. For stretching,
mindfulness and breath; we offer yoga classes morning and evening on Mondays.
Still not sure? How about coming with a friend or neighbour?
For more information, please phone Melanie (902 582 7700) or
Christine (902

men’s yoga class? If so, please contact Melanie for more information. We will
be holding a mid-winter community dance on Saturday January 24 at the Lloyd
Centre 9:00pm-12:00am . This will be a
fund-raiser for the KFWS which will support the cost of the yearly hall rental.

Never mind the resolutions, let's just have
fun keeping active in 2015. Happy New Year to all our friends, participants and
supporters wherever you may be!
