POSITIVE AGING POST 3.
Presently, Canadians have one of the highest life expectancies in the world. On average, a 65 year old man can expect to live another 17 years and a 65 year old woman can expect to live an additional 21 years. 13 of those years will be in good health but 4-8 will be in poor health. Physical activity plays an important part in minimizing chronic disease and maximising quality of life as we age.
Fine, but what if you're housebound? or already frail? The Home Exercise Support Program is an evidence based, in-home exercise program consisting of 10 simple, yet progressive exercises designed to enhance and maintain functional fitness, mobility and independence. Our funding from Nova Scotia Department of Seniors will cover the training of a facilitator who will then train caregivers or family members in the community.
